Maybe you could move the text up a bit more, although there is a text scrolling feature, it gives the player a better experience if the text is centered. Also, I'd like to say that the music is well chosen, I really like the soundtrack.
Like other comments said, I was scared the text was going to be cut off for me, but when I realized I could scroll I was so amazed! I ran into the text cutting off for my game as well but I wasn't sure how to implement a scrolling mechanism lol. I really am interested to see what else you add to this game!
The scrolling text is so cool, at first I thought it was cut off, but I was shocked when I realized I could move it. The story itself is so intriguing too, I can't for the next patch!
Although this game is still quite in development, I am quite impressed by your use of the scrolling mechanic, which makes me wonder how you were able to integrate that into the game. I like how you provide titles for the different parts as it creates this novel aesthetic for your game, which is fitting considering what your story is based on. I do wonder if your game will have different paths that will be determined by the choices you make in the game.
This is so far the only long-text word adventure game which enables me to scroll down. I love the outline of this story, but i would suggest to have more interaction with the player or that will be a little bit direct and boring~
From the games I played this was the only one that took advantage of being able to have a scrollable text box, which is really cool!! This feels like a proper fantasy book (and from what I saw in the comments, this is in fact an adaptation of a real story based around finding the bravery to take the challenge). Something cool that you could do would be to count and print how many times the player was a coward XD
That's actually such a good idea! I'm not sure how I would implement it yet, but now I totally want to do a tally informing the player about how many times they failed to fulfill the role of chivalrous knight!!
I’m not sure whether the Green Knight is based on a preexisting story, but this seems like something that would be in an episodic plot of BBC Merlin. I like how it makes you question what you’ll need to do to beat this guy, like his challenge is a riddle or sorts.
It is based on a preexisting story. This was almost word for word an adaptation of it. It is indeed a riddle as the story was about finding courage and sticking by your honor and word and being rewarded for it. Kinda why the game punishes you for being a coward.
The Green Knight's Game and the BBC's Adventures of Merlin (2008—12) television series both share the same source materials! But I can't lie, I've been rewatching the show since I discovered it was free on Tubi lol
I like where you end the game, when you choose to take up the challenge. It really makes me want more. I'm curious, do you plan to add more interaction for the player later on?
The critique of Sir Gawain’s character flaws came out of nowhere and made me laugh. I’d love to see some more visuals (images, drawings, etc) to help set the scene, but the writing itself has quite a bit of character!
I love the break of the "fourth" wall in the narration, with the narrative directly commenting on the player's character. I wonder if it would affect the player's choices if such criticism was offered before an option was made, instead of after.
How did you achieve the scroll feature?
I have a feeling this text based game goes with the character you created for your first project! Or at least it reminds me! I think out of all the games, this was the first to use a scroll bar which is so cool. Definitely allows for more story telling, I’m going to need to use that!
I think choosing the name Arthur for the protagonist really reminds me of Merlin. Perhaps that was your inspiration, considering Arthur was a knight there, and this game seems to have a sort of fantasy theme going with it. I do enjoy how it's not a simple retelling of Arthur's story, but your own take on a knight who also just happens to be named Arthur.
This game reminds me of a story book, like the ones that open up movies. This is largely due to the music and writing of the game itself. It made me feel like I was getting teleported into the story.
There's a good direction here, and would revitalize this medieval tale into a more "accessible" platform, via text-based narrative where players can quite literally engage with the text (and determine the story of Gawain). Like what some others mentioned, I'd be down to seeing how the scrolling interaction / paper aesthetic could be further elaborated on!
After getting to both endings, it’s safe to say our protagonist is some sort of chosen one, or he has immense strength. I think this could be a story with themes of fate and responsibility, and maybe feeling empowered. It left me feeling empowered after I chopped the green knights head off, I wanted it to keep going!
I really like how the game do the narration, the scrolling interaction is impressive.
There’s a minimalist aesthetic to the game, but it works really well with the overall tone. The music really adds to the setting as well. Using a handwritten font would make it feel like I’m reading out of a book. Great work with establishing setting!
I also got the same vibe with the aesthetic! I really like the scrolling element to it but I wonder if a turning page animation or some kind of scene change would further emphasize the "reading out of a book" experience especially given that it's taken from an actual mythological story.
Thank you! I'm looking into more unique fonts to add to overall aesthetic of the game. I think I found one for titles, but I'm still on the hunt for the standard text.
The fantasy storytelling-style in this game really adds to the immersion in the game! The aesthetic of the interface that makes it look like parchment also contributes to the medieval setting.
The scrolling of the text is really impressive considering what we learned on how to code text mesh pro. I wonder how you managed to execute that?
I found a rather short YouTube video explaining how to do it, I'll share it with everyone.
The music really adds rounds out the context of the game and completes the immersive experience, i feel like a true knight
The presentation of the story of the Green Knight is super cool! I like the Yes and No options to give the player some choices to guide the story.
